Curriculum Development Workshop on Sustainable Agriculture at Mayurbhanj, Green-Ag project, Odisha

A two-day workshop to develop an enterprise-centric curriculum on sustainable agriculture was organized on February 16 and 17, 2023 under the Green-Ag Project, Odisha at the Green Landscape Implementation Unit (GLIU) Office, Baripada, Mayurbhanj. This curriculum will be used to conduct the farmer field schools in the landscape for the crops selected through community consultations. The representatives of relevant line departments - Agriculture, Horticulture, Soil conservation, Forest, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), progressive farmers, National Project Management Unit/ FAO, State Project Management Unit (SPMU) and Green Landscape Implementation Unit (GLIU) and the Community Resource Persons (CRPs) participated in the workshop.
The participants discussed and suggested the best environmentally friendly agriculture practices for Kharif Paddy and Rabi Chickpea along with livestock products like Black Bengal goats in the landscape under the guidance of Shri Sudhakar Yerrakonda, FFS Specialist, NPMU. Project Director, Watersheds cum DPNO, Mayurbhanj, Deputy Director, Horticulture and Senior Scientist cum Heads of KVKs located in the district and progressive farmers shared their views. They reiterated the advantages of developing a farmer field school training curriculum for commodities that have good market potential as it shall truly benefit the farmers of the landscape.
The State Technical Coordinator, SPMU facilitated the workshop with the support of Mr Smruti Ranjan Dandapat, FFS Expert and the GLIU team.
The workshop concluded by identifying a list of sustainable good agriculture practices for Paddy and Chickpeas for the Simlipal landscape, Mayurbhanj district. The FFS specialist, GLIU gave the vote of thanks for the active participation of everyone.
