7th State Steering Committee (SSC) meeting, Green-Ag project, Mizoram

The Green-Ag Project in Mizoram, aimed at catalyzing transformative change in India's agricultural sector to support national and global environmental benefits and conserve critical biodiversity and forest landscapes, conducted its 7th State Steering Committee (SSC) meeting at the Secretariat's Conference Hall, MINECO, New Capital Complex, Aizawl this morning at 9:30 AM. Chaired by Dr. Lalrozama, Secretary of Agriculture, Government of Mizoram and SSC Chairman of the Green-Ag Project, the meeting welcomed all SSC members, including the representatives of the UN-Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of India, Mr. Takayuki Hagiwara (UN-FAO Representative of India) and Mr. RB Sinha (Project Director & Senior Policy Advisor, Green-Ag Project).
During the meeting, Mr. James Lalsiamliana, Director of Agriculture, Government of Mizoram, and SSC Member Secretary of Green-Ag Project, presented the compliance and achievement reports of project implementations in the Dampa-Thorangtlang Landscape of Mizoram. Some of the key highlights of the Green-Ag progress reports included the development of Crop Suitability Matrix and Ground Truthing for Sticky Rice, Maize, and Sesame, as well as various initiatives related to livestock development, seed treatment, and storage, environmental awareness programs, and vaccination drives.
Following the presentation, the SSC deliberated and approved the Annual Work-Plan and Budget for 2023-24, totaling Rs. 2,66,43,815, along with matters related to project management and the restructuring of the SSC. The meeting concluded with special remarks from Mr. Takayuki Hagiwara, UN-FAO Representative of India (FAOR). Subsequently, the SSC Chairman and the UN-FAO team met with Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram, to apprise her about the project's progress and emphasize the significance of a multi-sectoral approach in achieving the project objectives. Later in the evening, the UN-FAO team departed for Lunglei for their Mission Field Visit.
