FAO organizes RuralInvest Training Workshop to Boost Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Investment, New Delhi

07 Sep 2023
FAO organized a three-day capacity-building workshop on RuralInvest from 4-6 September 2023 in Delhi. The training was led by the FAO Representative in India, Mr Takayuki Hagiwara. The workshop trained economists and the FAO India team.
The objective of the workshop was to train participants on FAO’s RuralInvest toolkit. RuralInvest is an open-access toolkit designed to strengthen sustainable agricultural and rural investment projects and business plans. The learning content under the tool is distributed across three online modules. Module 1 focuses on participatory identification of investment needs; Module 2 on preparing and using project profiles – turning ideas into projects; and Module 3 focuses on detailed project formulation, analysis, results monitoring and building of project database.
The three-day workshop trained participants to prepare Project Profiles on various commodities identified by the Green-Ag project communities. The workshop involved small group work, wherein state teams developed sample project profiles for the targeted landscapes under the project. The teams comprised a mix of economists, state representatives, and the FAO India team.
The Green-Ag project is operational in five landscapes i.e., Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. Under the project, at least four investment plans per landscape will be developed as an outcome of this workshop. The economists will develop these investment plans in consultation with the communities and with support from the local project team.
RuralInvest is a valuable participatory and interactive tool kit that field technicians, local financing institutions, and government officials could use to support rural communities and potential entrepreneurs to develop viable investment plans for accessing institutional finance.
